Months ago, about the time that I started this blog, I had a weird dream that was hard to explain, and the details of the dream faded quickly. I wrote down the main concept of the dream before I forgot it. A group of kids were kidnapped and given new identities. I was sure that I would be able to make this idea into a book, or even a series of books. I choose to take my time writing out details. I wanted to write character descriptions, backstories and have an outline prepared before I officially started writing the story out. This proved to be too difficult for me. I lost focus since I also needed to keep up on writing stories to post each week. But I couldn’t get this idea out of my head. The writer’s block I have had hasn’t helped any because “Amy” the main character of this story just wanted to tell her story. So, I threw my whole plan out the window of planning everything out and I just started writing. Before I knew it, I had the first rough draft of the first two chapters. I have decided to share this first draft with you. No updated versions will ever be posted, but I plan on putting in detail later on that will take this from armature story to a novel worth trying to publish. I hope you enjoy this for now though. I will post chapters as they are written.
Unfortunately, it was much harder being a spy than Amy had imagined. Nothing Amy had witnessed in Lord Crimson’s office she had been able to report on. She would lay drinks or food down on the desk and Lord Crimson would flip over what he was reading. If he had a meeting with anyone, he would send Amy, or anyone really, out of the room. Once outside it was impossible to hear what was being said through the heavy door.
Amy also couldn’t help but have a few doubts in Calab and the rebellion. Particularly in what they had said to Haylee. They had brought her in under the promise of getting out but have since changed their tune and expects her to spy. It makes Amy wonder what other promises they could go back on. They had barely answered any of her questions in the first meeting and the second one they just assumed she would help. She wanted to talk to someone she could trust to determine if she could be being used.
The upside to all of this is Amy finally felt like she had a friend in this house. Amy and Haylee gravitated towards each other any chance they had. There was never anything to talk about cause the only things they wanted to was forbidden. That was until they were in Lord Crimson’s office cleaning it again that Haylee voiced something that Amy suspected she had been holding back.
“I don’t know if he is the best option for me.” Amy knew who she was referring to, but Amy also knew there was at least one camera in there that the rebellion could monitor. Who knows if there could be more. Haylee pleaded with no more words, and Amy nodded and started cleaning a little faster. And they managed to finish with about five minutes to spare. So Amy dragged Haylee through the bookshelf into the hidden passage.
“What exactly did they promise you?” Amy asked quickly.
“They said they could get me home. That they needed a little time, but they would have me back home in no time.” Amy could hear the skepticism. “I feel like I can trust you but im not sure about them. Did they make you any promises?”
“Not really. I just wanted information. I’m fourteen and I know I missed key points in how Aurum took over. They asked me what I wanted and I said I wanted to be my own person again. That was on the first day of present presentation and the ceremony was ending at that point, so we didn’t get into anymore.” Voicing this aloud made Amy feel used all the sudden.
“So, they gained your trust and just assumed you would be willing to help. Do you want to help them then?” In the dark Amy could hear the protection Haylee was feeling.
“Maybe, I don’t know. I know that I want to know where my friends are and try to get everyone safe. I don’t know how to do that. Though. Do you have any other options without Caleb and Emily.?”
“No, I don’t have other options. And I don’t want to make promises that I don’t know what I can keep. But I do want to ask that we don’t keep anything from each other. I want us both to have all the information so that Caleb and Emily can’t hide anything from us. Do you agree?”
“Yes, I can agree to that. Thank you cause now I’m starting to think my age is going to work against me in this.” Amy shook her head in disappointment in herself.
“I won’t let that happen. Come on let’s get back to work before we’re caught.” With that Haylee stepped out of their hiding spot.
Amy took another moment to think of her best friends again. Danny, Eric, Joann, Stephine, Clayton and my name is Amy.
