My Learning Addiction

What is something you are addicted to that is good? For this person they like to learn about random things. Unfortunately, one day they were accused of not paying attention in class. They did not want to write the apology letter that they were assigned so they learned about whatever they wanted to and wrote about it instead. (My sources are listed at the end.)

You claim I wasn’t paying attention in class today. You, Mr. Lennox, my teacher, are trying to say I’m lazy and that I don’t like to learn about things. I tried to explain that I was listening to you and that I love learning. I’m a little addicted to it really. My parents and you agreed that I needed to write a letter of apology to you. I disagree and instead have put my time into learning more new things. Here are ten new things I have researched. I think as a teacher that learning something is a better use of mine and your time.

First, bananas are curved for a reason. This is due to phenomena known as negative geotropism. Plants grow based on gravity. Positive geotropisms grow with gravity, such as carrots. Negative geotropisms grow against gravity such as bananas. I also noted that the trees that bananas grow in are not really trees but an herb.

Next did you know that Mars is not actually round, it’s in the shape of a triaxial ellipsoid. Its thought that mars had a moon named Nerio that is the cause of this. That moon would have had some of the same tilde forces that the moon has on earth. Though at some point the moon was destroyed or removed from Mars’ orbit.

I think, Mr. Lennox, you will be surprised to learn that wearing a necktie could reduce blood flow to the brain by 7.5%. The tie could be pushing blood into your skull causing a buildup. This will be most serious for smokers and for the elderly. As you know, blood flow is vital for normal brain function. Though at such a low percentage necktie wearing won’t cause immediate or noticeable symptoms.

Something that won’t be a concern for you; you can die from laughing. Intense laughter could cause suffocation or heart attack. The other risk could be the lack of oxygen causing a person to pass out and injure themselves. Anyone who has a long laughing fit should try to slow down and take a few deep breaths to replenish oxygen in the blood.

Something I didn’t think about, but your pets can be allergic to their owners. This falls in the category of environmental allergies for the animal. A high percentage of animals that are allergic to humans only have a low to mild case.

Laughing came before language, sounds odd but once you hear the reasoning makes perfect sense. Laughter is a primitive sound. It is also a globally recognized behavior. You can find laugh-like sounds coming from many animals as well. This sound has always been associated with amusement.

Luckey fact number seven is that butterfly’s taste with their feet. They do not have togues like other animals; they have something called proboscis. They use this sense of taste in their feet to decide if where they have landed is a good place to lay their eggs.

We as humans think we are the smartest species but when an emergency happens we prove we are not. Schools of fish form orderly queues in emergencies. This has been studied in neon tetra fish specifically. Humens tend to race to an exit causing congestion and decreasing efficiently whereas the fish all waited their turn and made it through the exit quickly.

Just for you I looked up a food fact as well. It takes 540 peanuts to make up a 12oz jar of peanut butter. But it also takes over 3 gallons of water to make just one ounce. Some quick math means that is 36 gallons of water for just one jar.

And just to prove I love learning English as well. The longest English word is 189,819 letter long. It is the chemical name for titin and does not appear in any English dictionary. Titin is the name of the largest known protein of mankind. The longest word that does appear in major English dictionary’s is 45 letters long. Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is a type of lung disease.

So, Mr. Lennox as much as you think I’m lazy, I can prove that I am not. I will not apologize for a crime I did not commit. If you would like to reevaluate how you decide punishments I have a couple ideas for you if you want to talk.
