There are two sides to every story. That is how the old saying goes. I chose to explore a story told by two different people. I wrote a paragraph from one story then jumped to write that same paragraph from the other story. This is the first story, come back next week for the other side of the story.
We spent a month planning our anniversary trip. The fun activities, the lazy days, the cute diners and the romantic dinners. a couple spa day, shopping in the town, batting cages and go karts. I was so excited to go and just focus on Jake and nothing else. I was so confident in our plan that I didn’t question everything the days leading up to the trip. Jake wanted me to relax and that’s what I did.
The train was supposed to leave at 9:00 AM that morning. So, the plan was to be awake by 6:30 and be at the station by 8 so all we had to do was park and make it through security. I know I over plan things, but it makes me calmer if I know what is happening. Jake has always known this about me, and yet time and again he acts surprised when I remind him of the plan. So, when my alarm went off in the morning, I got up right away and put on the coffee. I walked back into the bedroom and tried to wake Jake he grumbled and rolled over. I got dressed and started our breakfast. I finally heard Jake wake up and head to the bathroom 20 minutes later and I heard the shower turn on.
When I finished eating, I cleaned up the rest of the kitchen, so it doesn’t sit out while we are gone. Finally, Jake came down to eat his food. At this point it has been must be getting cold, but he didn’t say anything. so, I went back to finish packing the last minute items I heard a video on his phone and him laughing I hope he hurries up I want the trash taken out and help with the bite I brought them down to the door and Jake finally got up I looked at the time it was 7:50.
I looked at Jake and asked what else he needed. He said he needed socks and shoes and would be ready. I looked over and saw that his plate was still sitting out in the garbage was still in the can. I truly want to give him the benefit of the doubt, so I grabbed the small bag and my purse to take them to the car. I checked the bag again as I set it in the backseat to confirm I had the tickets and hotel information I needed. I hear Jake behind me and smile. he is putting the garbage in the trash can. I follow him back inside to do a final check.
I see the time and it’s just after 8, later than I would like, but we are just about ready, so I mentally take a sigh of relief. Jake asked if there are any more bags that need to be grabbed from the bedroom. I say no that he just needs his phone, wallet and keys and I’m ready to leave.
It was a quiet ride to the train station. I could see Jake thinking about something. I try not to distract him during this cause if I do whatever he is working through gets derailed. The line through security takes almost 20 minutes. But we make it to the train with ten minutes to spare and settle into our seats.
As we make our way to our destination Jake looks at me and apologizes for not getting up on time. He said he thought about it on the drive over and realized that there needs to be a balance between over relaxing and over planning. that had I not woke up when I had neither of us would have been able to eat. At the same time, he thanked me for not pushing him too hard this morning.
This vacation together was exactly what we needed to reconnect with each other. When we made it home, we worked so much better through our everyday lives.
