And My Name is Amy- Chapter 3

Months ago, about the time that I started this blog, I had a weird dream that was hard to explain, and the details of the dream faded quickly. I wrote down the main concept of the dream before I forgot it. A group of kids were kidnapped and given new identities. I was sure that I would be able to make this idea into a book, or even a series of books. I choose to take my time writing out details. I wanted to write character descriptions, backstories and have an outline prepared before I officially started writing the story out. This proved to be too difficult for me. I lost focus since I also needed to keep up on writing stories to post each week. But I couldn’t get this idea out of my head. The writer’s block I have had hasn’t helped any because “Amy” the main character of this story just wanted to tell her story. So, I threw my whole plan out the window of planning everything out and I just started writing. Before I knew it, I had the first rough draft of the first two chapters. I have decided to share this first draft with you. No updated versions will ever be posted, but I plan on putting in detail later that will take this from armature story to a novel worth trying to publish. I hope you enjoy this for now though. I will post chapters as they are written.

The village council have tried their best for the last 2 years. Everyone had been watching a news broadcast from Charleston about the battle that had been raging for days between the US Army and the very large group of people who wanted to take over the government. Or the land. Or a different life. Amy wasn’t quite sure. Her parents had tried to shield her from the worst of it, so that meant the details of how and why this all started were hazy at best. As the live coverage continued there was a large explosion that could be felt even from their small mountain town, and everything went dark. Television, lights, cellphones, computers, everything. Ever since, everyone has been just trying to survive.

Now the sheriff did leave town a few days out with a small group of men to try to find out what happened. But they never returned. Every six months the towns people would get restless for answers and a volunteer group would leave again. The last group that left included Joann’s oldest brother, Deputy Sherriff Ken, that was two months ago, and Joann had been sick with worry every day since. Then all a sudden people started claiming that they had seen a drone flying near the outskirts of town. Though only one person saw it at any given sighting and never at the same time of day, these claims were dismissed by the council who were doing their best just to keep everyone fed.

Then there was the night everything changed. Amy was asleep at home with her mom. Her dad was out on patrol from unknown threats. A dozen drones flew low into town and dropped smoke bomb grenades. Then soldiers in red uniforms with gold trim came marching in. They broke into houses and dragged everyone out to the streets. In the smoke and confusion many men tried to fight against the soldiers including Amy’s father. All those men lost their lives. At first Amy’s dad was knocked out. Amy and her mom both saw it happen her mom ran straight for him, blind to everything else. She needed to help him. Amy watched as the soldier fired two rounds. One for each of her parents. As the crowd stopped fighting and complied with the soldiers everyone looked around at the men and women who just lost their lives. All the council members, what was left of the police force, and some children who had run after their parents. A soldier stepped forward that looked like he may be in charge. He looked around at everyone kneeling on the ground

“This land is now claimed for Aurum! Follow us if you wish to live.”

And so, they did. One by one they were marched into steel box trucks. Right before they closed the door Amy looked out at her home not knowing if she would ever be back. Then she saw one more person try to fight back and saw a gun shoot one more time.
