The five random words inspiring todays story are: Singer, intervention, row, grace, dull. looking at all these words together reminded me of my own spiritual journey I have been on this year. I thought I would explore it some more through someone else’s eyes. I included the two verses that spoke to me the most.

Samson’s life had gotten dull. The life he had envisioned for himself as family man had evaded him while he built his handy man reputation and business. Each day there was a new customer, and a new problem that needed to be solved, but his nights were all the same. Bland food, the same shows and no company, night after night. He always took Sundays off to recharge. But all he ever did was sit in the house. He had no friends that he kept up with.

Samson had what could be considered an intervention one day at a customer’s house. When he arrived, the wife was hosting a bible study for the son and his friends. Samson was working in the next room and could hear most of the conversation. The teenage boys were full of questions. Not always accepting the answers but showing compassion and grace to others’ points of views. When Samson finished his work, he stepped into the room just to listen to the mom read a verse from the bible that gave him pause. She said the verse was Psalms 18:6. To Samson it felt like this was God’s way of showing him how to turn his dull life around. Samson may not have prayed for it, but God had heard him all the same.

That Sunday samson got up early and made his way to the church the family said they attended. Once inside Samson saw row upon row of people happy to be there. He saw his customers and discreetly made his way to them. The son was the first to see him and greeted him. Samson explained that he wasn’t sure he belonged there, but that he wanted to not feel dull anymore. The family invited him to sit with them as the service started.

As the service went on Samson started to recognize the people around him as other customers of his. He even saw a couple of his neighbors. The lead singer of the choir lived across the street from him. The pastor was speaking on a story in 2 Corinthians chapter 7. Samson felt like the pastor looked right at him when he quoted verse 16.

From that day on Samson felt at home. He started making time to go to bible studies and was able to make some meaningful friendships. Every Sunday he was found in the front row of church. He was the loudest voice among the singers and felt God’s grace in every sermon. Gods’ intervention took Samson’s dull life and gave him one where he felt fulfilled.

Psalms 18:6 “In my distress I called upon the LORD; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.”

2 Corinthians 7:16 “I rejoice, because I have complete confidence in you”
