The writing prompt is to describe your favorite vacation. Though I have lots of trips to choose from, the first one that came to mind was a day trip I took solo last year. This prompt is one that I could revisit at a later date.
Have you ever been so overwhelmed, you just need to get away. Take some time to think and be yourself. I feel like that all the time. Some days it’s so hard that it affects everything I do. When it gets that bad my husband does his best to let me get away to recenter.
One of those days was last year and came at the perfect time, I took a day trip to Kelly’s Island on Lake Erie in Ohio. It is just a couple hours’ drive away from home plus a twenty-minute ferry ride.
The day I visited was still in the middle of spring, so some of the tourist attractions were not open yet. But I chose to rent a bicycle and just ride around the island for the day. My favorite spot that I stopped at was Inscription Rock. It is right next to the water, and I just sat there for a while thinking and admiring the site.
I also enjoy sitting at the beach and listening to the waves. If I were ever in a place in my life where I could own a property on the lake I would. That day was so peaceful. I came home refreshed to my daughter so happy to see me.
Vacations don’t have to be weeklong and extravagant. They don’t even have to be with family, if the break you need is from everyone else. If your vacation leaves you feeling like you had fun and you wouldn’t change anything about it, that is all that matters.
